SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Robert Taylor, 3 Jan 1789 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Robert Taylor, Southampton Co, VA (1789) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Robert Taylor of the County of Southampton being weak in body tho of sound & disposing mind and memory and willing to prevent disputes about my estate after my death, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit: Imprimis: I give & bequeath to neice Patsey Woodlief, daughter of Thomas & Martha Woodlief, the six following negros, to wit: Judy, her child Fanny, Clary, Lydia, Jimmy & Doll, to her & her heirs, but shoud (should) my said neice Patsy Woodleif die before she arrives to the age of twenty one or marries, then my desire is that the estate left her shoud be equally divided between my five relations (to wit): William Browne & Ann Browne, decendents of William & Ann Browne, deceas'd, Samuel Browne, Martha Browne & Mary Browne, children of Benjamin Edwards & Mary Mason Browne, which estate I give to them and their heirs. Item: I give and bequeath to my nephew William Browne, son of William & Ann Browne, deceas'd, the five following neg: to wit: Dinah & her children, Lucy, Amos, Bech & Jack, to him and his hours, but shoud he die under the age of twenty one, I desire that estate left him be equally divided between his sister Anne Browne & the surviving children of Benjamin Edwards and Mary Mason Browne which estate I give them and their heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my neice Ann Browne, daughter of William & Anne Browne, dec'd, the five following negros, to wit: Nancy, Molly, young Peter, Hannah and Amey to her and her heirs, but shou'd my said neice Ann Browne die under the age of twenty one and not married, then I desire that the estate left her be equally divided between her brother William Browne & the surviving children of Benjamin Edwards & Mary Mason Browne, which estate I give them and their heirs forever. Item: (I) desire that the residue of my estate whatsoever both real and personal not heretofore devis'd be sold in order to pay all my just debts, the balance of money arising from such sales after paying my debts, I give to be equally divided between my six relations, to wit: William & Ann Browne, son & daughter to William and Ann Browne deceas'd, Patsy Woodlief, daughter to Thomas & Martha Woodlief, the three children of Benjamin Edwards & Mary Mason Browne, to wit: Samuel Browne, Martha Browne & Mary Browne, which estate I give to them and their heirs forever. Lastly, I do appoint my brother in law Benjamin Edwards Browne and my cousin Etheldred Taylor my Executors to this my Last Will & Testament hereby revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made.
