SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Jeremiah Thorpe, 18 Dec 1792 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Jeremiah Thorpe, St. Lukes Parish, Southampton Co, VA IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Jeremiah Thorpe of the County fo Southampton and Parish of St. Lukes being of sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be to almighty God and do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner & form following, viz: Item: I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Martha Torpe during her natural life, my land & plantation lying between three creeks & the road?, also my negro man Dick & three of the first choice of my stock of cattle, four of the first choice of my stock of sheep, one bay mare, one feather bed & furniture, one spinning & cards twenty barrels of corn for the ensuing year, twelve head of hogs of any size she choses & one pot & after her death, I desire that the negro, the cattle, except two the sheep, the wheel & cards, the mare, the stock of hogs, the bed & furniture, & the pot be sold & the money equally divided between my four children, namely: Timothy Thorpe, Hardy Tharpe, Willie Tharpe & Olive Thorpe, to them & their heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath to my son Joshua Thorpe the above mentioned land & plantation after the death of my beloved wife Martha Thorpe, also two of the above mentioned stock of cattle or two of their increase, one feather bed & furniture & my still to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath to my son Timothy Thorpe one tract or parcel of land lying on Tar River in the state of North Carolina near Ferills Bridge containing six hundred & forty acres be the same more or less to him & his heirs forever, but if the said Timothy Thorp should die without heir lawfully begotten, I give the said land & plantation to my son Willie Thorpe to him & his heirs forever, but I except one third of this said land & plantation which I lend to the said Timothy Thorpes widow during her natural life & after her death this said land shall return to this said Willie Thorpe as above mentioned. Item: I give & bequeath to my son Hardy Thorp the whole of my land lying on the south side of the road leading from Southampton Courthouse to Micka Ford excep one acre to him & his heirs forever, but if he should die without heir lawfully begotten, I give the said land to my son Joshua Thorpe to him & his heirs forever, also one bed and furniture. Item: I give and bequeath to daughter Sarah Chick (Chuk?) one negro boy named Many to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath to my three grandchildren orphans of Mary Spence, deceased, twelve pounds each current money of Virginia & the money to be paid to int. by my Executors until the eldest son arrive to the age of twenty years, then I desire that the principal & int. shoud be equally divided between them to them and to their heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Long five shillings current money of Virginia also one bed & furniture which she has already in possession to her & her heirs forever. I also give her one acre of land during her natural life on the south? side of the above mentioned road adjoining Hardy Thorps land and after her death, I give that said one acre of land to my son Hardy Thorp to him & his heirs forever, but if he shoud die without heir lawfully begotten, I give this said acre of land to my son Joshua Thorp to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Olive Thorp one negro girl named Loiseilla & all her increase & one feather bed & furniture & one womas (woman's) saddle to her & her heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath to my grand daughter Polly Long the first child of the increase of my negro girl Rebecca if she shoud have any increase, & one feather bed & furniture & one loom to her & her heirs forever, but if she shoud die without heir or under the age of eighteen years, I give the said negro to my grand daughter Martha Long, to her & her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Martha Long one negro girl named Rebecca and all her increase except the eldest child which is above mentioned to her & her heirs forever, but if she shoud die without heir lawfully begotten or under the age of eighteen years, I desire that the said negro girl & all her increase shoud be sold & the money arising, to be divided equally between the whole of my children to them & their heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath to my son Willie Thorpe one hundred pounds current money of Virginia to be made out of my estate & one bed & furniture to him and his heirs forever. My will and desire is that the whole of my estate that is not herein mentioned shoud be sold at public sale & one hundred pounds to be paid to my son Willie Thorpe as above mentioned and to pay of my just debts and funeral expenses & the balance if any to be equally divided between my four children (to wit): Timothy Thorp, Hardy Thorp, Willie Thorpe and Olive Thorpe to them and their heirs forever. I do constitute & appoint my son Joshua Thorp my whole & sole Executor of this my Last Will Will & Testament.
