SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Tillar, 11 Feb 1794 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: John Tillar, St. Luke Parish, Southampton Co, VA (1794) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I John Tillar of the County of Southampton & Parish of St Luke, being sick & weak but of perfect memory, thanks to almighty God for the same, calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. First, I recommend my soul to almighty God that gave it me and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent christian manner at the discretion of my Executors & as touching such worldly goods as has been pleased God to bestow on me, I desire as follows, to wit: I lend unto my loving wife Rebeccah Tillar my land, negros, horses, cattle, & hogs and all my household & kitchen furniture until my son Jack Tillar Westlake alias Tillar arrive to the age of twenty years but on conditions the child is to be rais'd and educated out of the estate with such education as may be thought proper by my Executors provided the estate be not wasted. In case my wife Rebeccah should marry before the term of time then she to have no part of the estate but if she should live a widow untill my son Jack Tillar Westbrook, alias Tillar, should arrive to the age of twenty years, then my desire is that my estate both real & personal to be equally devided between them both & their heirs forever, provided my son should die without issue, and my wife before the term of time, then my desire is that my estate be divided between my sister Polly Tillar & my sister in law Sally Westbrook and if my son only die before he arrive to the age above mentioned, my estate to be divided between my wife & Polly Tillar, my desire is that my Executors do not suffer my estate to be wasted. If in case they see it wasting & coming to nothing, it may be in there power to prevent it the (they) may sell any part that they think can be best spard to pay debts if any shoud be wanting. Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint my friends Thomas Westbrook & Ben Adent Executors to this my Last Will & Testament. I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all other Wills by me before made rattifying and confirming this to be my Last Will & Testament.
