SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Benjamin Turner, 8 Aug 1783 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD amen, the 8th day of August 1783, I Benjamin Turner (buck horn) being sick & weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for it & knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner following. First, I give my soul to almighty God that gave it to me & my body I leave to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named & for what worldly goods I have, I leave in manner & form following. Item: I give & bequeath to my son Joe L.(possibly an L) Turner my plantation whereon I now live on Buckham Swamp containing two hundred & twenty acres, more or less. Also I give my son Joel two other tracts lying on the Flat swamp, one that I bought of Mary Persons containing two hundred acres more or less & one other that I bought of Richard Avery containing one hundred and thirty five acres more or less, which said land I give to my son Joel Turner to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Will Turner all the rest of my land lying on the Flat Swamp that I have not given to my son Joel containing by estimation six hundred & eighty one acres more or less which said land I give and bequeath to my son Will Turner to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to daughter Rebecca Turner five negroes, namely: Phillis, Fanney, Minga, Nancy & Molly, which said negroes, with their increase, I give to my daughter to her and her heirs forever. Item: My will and desire is that all the remainder of my negroes I give to be equally divided between my two sons Will & Joel without them being sold which said negroes I give to them and their heirs forever. My will an desire is that all the remainder of my estate of what kind or nature soever or where so ever found be sold & the money arising from the sale with what ready money I have now by me, be equally divided between my two sons & my daughter, namely Rebecca, Joel & Will to them & their heirs forever. My will and desire is that if either of my children dies under age or with- out issue that then their estate to be divided between the other two. And lastly, I constitute & appoint my brother and brother-in-laws Thomas Turner, Nathan Harriss & John Bannon my whole & sole Executors to this my Last Will & Testament, hereby revoking all other Wills heretofore by me made.
