All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Pilgrim VICK (1758-1818), will dated 1816, proved 21 Dec 1818 In the name of God amen I Pilgrim Vick of the county of Southampton and state of Virginia being very low in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks to the disposer of all things for the same and knowing that it is the lot of all men to leave this transitory life and that not how soon I do therefore under these impressions think proper to make this my last will and testament in the manner and form following (to wit) First I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Sally Vick two good beds bed steads and furniture, one pine chest (painted), one womans saddle to be at her disposal forever that is to say to her and to her heirs forever. Secondly I give unto my loving wife Sally Vick eight barrels corn, four hundred pounds bacon, all my stock of hogs, four ewes, two cows and calves, one bay mare to be for the use of her and her two children namely Polly and Anna during her natural life or widowhood and then it is my desire that the two above named Polly and Anna should have the use thereof to them their heirs and assigns forever. Thirdly I give unto my daughter Polly one bed bed stead and furniture, my bay colt named Jack to her and to her heirs forever. Fourthly I give unto my daughter Anna my walnut table, one bed bed stead and furniture, one pine chest (painted) and then twelve pewter plates and twelve pewter spoons to be equally between Polly and Anna. Fifthly I give unto my daughter Catharine Hargrave ten dollars to be raised out of my estate. Sixthly I give unto my son Exum my desk to him and his heirs forever. Seventhly I give unto my daughter Patience Vick one bed bed stead and furniture, one table, called cherry wood, the knives and forks which she has in possession, the bed also to the one which she has now in possession. Eightly I give unto my son Lemuel Vick my shot gun to him and his heirs forever. Ninthly I give all the lands whereon I now live unto my two daughters namely Polly and Anna Vick to them and their hiers forever, my loving wife Sally to have the use thereof during her natural life or widowhood. Tenthly and lastly it is my will and desire that my executors herein after mentioned shortly after my death to advertise and sell at public sale all the remainder and residue of my estate that is not herein given away and out of the money thence arising pay all my outstanding debts justly and lawfully. And the residue if any I give and bequeath to be equally divided between my two youngest daughters Polly and Anna Vick. I also nominate constitute and appoint John Thomas and Exum Vick executors to this my last will and testament revoking and disannulling all former will or wills by me heretofore by me made and allowing this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen. Pilgrim Vick Witness: James Maget John Rawls Samuel Maget At a court held for the county of Southampton the 21st day of December 1818 this last will and testament of Pilgrim Vick was this day presented in court by Exum Vick one of the executors therein named, proved by the oaths of James Maget and Samuel Maget the witnesses and ordered to be recorded. On the motion of the said executor who made oath according to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form on his giving bond and security. Whereupon the said executor with John Thomas and Jacob Barnes his securites entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of two thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs.
