All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ William VICK (1722-1784), will dated 15 May 1782, proved 11 Nov 1784 In the name of God amen I William Vick of Southampton county being in health and of a perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same, but remembering the mortality do make this my last will and testament and with what worldly goods God has been pleased to endow me with I give and dispose off(sic) in manner and terms as followeth. Item: I give and bequeath to son Lewis Vick the plantation whereon he now lives with all the land on the south side the Cypress Swamp, together with a small parcel of all the land on the north side of the said swamp bounded by Robert Newsom's junior line to a small branch that runs through the said Robert Newsom's junior plantation and down the said branch to the said swamp to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Pilgrim Vick the plantation whereon he now lives and bounded by the Cypress Swamp and the huckle* branch to Counsel Vick's lower corner tree, thence the said Vick's line to William Newsom's line thence the said Newsom's line to the corner, thence a line of marked trees to the said Cypress Swamp to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joshua Vick a parcel of land known by the name of Patt's Place beginning at Pilgrim Vick's line on the Cypress Swamp and up the said swamp to a small branch which is Lewis Vick's line to Robert Newsom's line and along the said Newsom's line to William Thomas's line to William Newsom's line and thence along a line of marked trees to the beginning to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Richard Vick a certain parcel of land beginning at a pine a corner tree running a line of marked trees to Jacob Vick's line along Jacob Vick's line to a corner, thence along a line of marked trees to the beginning to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Giles Vick the plantation whereon I now live and bound by John Everitt's line to Jacob Vick's line and by Jacob Vick's line to a line of marked trees, thence to Counsel Vick's line, thence down the Murkle* Branch to the beginning to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Silas Vick a parcel of land beginning at a corner in Jacob Vick's line thence along Jacob Vick's line to a line of marked trees along the said line to corner in Matthew Vick's line, thence along the said line to the beginning to him and his heirs forever. Item: I lend to my loving wife Anne Vick such a reasonable part of my estate as she and my two eldest sons shall think sufficient for her support during her widowhood and after her marriage or decease I desire that it may be divided between my nine children Lewis Vick, Pilgrim Vick, Joshua Vick, Richard Vick, Giles Vick, Silas Vick, Mildred Newsom, Sally Vick, Piety Vick to them and their heirs forever. Item: My will and desire is that the remainder of my estate should be divided thus that whatsoever part of my children is living with me at my decease may have just double the portion those have who are settled or acting for themselves to them and their heirs forever. Item: I do constitute and appoint my loving sons Lewis Vick and Pilgrim Vick and John Chitty senior my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifteenth day of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty two. This will was presented in court by Lewis Vick and Pilgrim Vick two of the executors therein named and proved by the oaths of John Jackson and Dorcas Vick two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
