SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - James Vick, 13 Sep 1793 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I James Vick of the county of Southampton, being in perfect mind & memory do make & ordain this my last will & testament in manner & form following: first & principally, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God & my body to be buried in a christian like manner at the discretion of my friends hereafter named. I lend to my loving wife Sarah Vick, during her widowhood, the land whereon I now live containing by estimation 315 acres, the land I purchased of Lewis Joiner, inclusive which said land is adjoining the land of Arthur Arrington, William Cemgiples? (faint), Thomas Williams & Nathaniel Jones. Also twelve negros, viz: Cale, Charles, Fan, Jacob, Pompey, Milly, Rose, Peg, Sal, Lendy, Archer & Lucy and also my stock of horses, cattle, sheep, hogs &c, all my house hold & kitchen furniture & plantation utensils. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Parks N. Vick, after my wifes decease or marriage, the aforementioned tract of land that is lent to my wife, to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Richard Vick the tract of land I purchased of Benjamin Andrews adjoining the lands of Samuel Drewit & Charles Buggs, to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath to my daughter Mary Worrell a negro girl by the name of Chainey which she has now in possession to her & her heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath to my daughter Lydia Worrell one negro boy named Med which she has now in possession, to her & her heirs forever. I lend to my daughter Tabitha Vasser one neg. girl named Edy during her life and after her death, I give and bequeath the said girl with her increase to Tabaitha Vassers children lawfully begotten to be equally divided to them & their heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Vick five shillings to him & his heirs forever. Item: I gie and bequeath to my son James Vick five shillings to him & his heirs forever. After paying my debts & legacies aforementioned, I lend to my (wife) Sarah Vick all the residue of my estate during her widowhood, and after her death or marriage, I give & bequeath all my estate that is not before given to be equally divided amongst my three children, namely: Parks Nocolson, Richard & Rebecca, to them & their heirs forever. And my desire is that if either of my three children shoud die before they arive to age or without issue, that all I have given to such deceas'd child or children shall remain to the survivor or survivors of the said three children equally to be divided and to their heirs forever. My desire is also that as my wife is to have the profits of my estate that she shall support & educate my children out of the same. Lastly, I do constitute my friend Micajah Halliman Executor & my (wife) Sarah Vick Executrix of this my Last Will & Testament. Clements At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 15th day of April 1796 This Will was presented in court by Sarah Vick, the Executrix therein named, prov'd by the oaths of Noel Waddill & Josiah Murfee, two of the witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded.
