SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - William Vick, 8 Aug 1794 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I William Vick Sr of the County of Southampton & state of Virginia being sick & weak of body but of sound & disposing mind and memory, thanks be to almighty God for the same, & calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner & form following: Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Vick two negroes, to wit: George & Abraham which he hath been possessed with some time to him & his heirs forever, and every other article which I possess'd him with when he removed? to Georgia and do hereby acknowledge my consent to the sale of negro girl Joan? that he sold before he went away to Tomas Bryant. Item: I leave the labour & use of four negros, Ben, Mike, Ted & Jesse to my daughter Sarah Duggir being the negros that I have heretofore lent to my said daughter Sarah Duggir & which she is now in possession of, to them, my said grand daughters & their heirs respectively forever & every other article which I have heretofore put in the possession of? Howile? Duggir, I lend in like manner and after my said daughters death to be equally divided between my grand daughters. Item: I leave the labour & use of negro wench Belah & her present increase unto my daughter Rachele Pennington, now wife of James Pennington, during her natural life and after her death, I give this negro wench Belah & her present & future increase unto all my grand children born of my said daughter Rachele Pennington that may be living at the time of her death to them & heirs respectively forever, which said negro wench Belah & her present increase I have possessed James Pennington with already also I lend the use of all & every other article which I have possess'd him with in like manner & after my said daughters death, I give then in like form. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Dorcas Boykin, now wife (of) John Boykin, one negro boy called Anthony which he hath now in possession and all other articles which I have put her heretofore in possession of and at my wifes death for my said son Newit Vick to pay her thirty pounds hard money out of (what) I may leave him to her & her heirs forever. Item: I give the labour & use of negro's Betha & her present increase & Sam unto my daughter Patience Browne, now wife of Daniel Browne during her natural life and all other articles that I have heretofore put in the possession of Daniel Browne and after her death, I give and bequeath Betha & her present & future increase & Sam and all other of the property unto my grand children, born of my said daughter Patience Browne that may be living at the time of the death to be equally divided to them & their heirs respectively forever. Item: I give & bequeath unto my son Burwell Vick negros Jack & Cherry & their increase which I have heretofore put him in possession of and given him a deed of ge.l for? but for pas? of his not having the same legally recorded. I now confirm them to him & to his heirs forever abiate? other as tisls? possession. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son William Vick the land & plantation whereon Holloway Dinson formerly lived & whereon my said son now lives, together with two hundred acres of land more or less adjoining the same bounded as follows beginning on Worrells line then on the said line to William Whiteheads line then on said Whiteheads line to the first branch then down the said branch to the hogpen branch then up the the said branch to where the old line crosses then sindery? on the old line to the Holly Pond branch then up the Holly Pond branch to the first branch out of it then near a south course on a line of mark'd trees to a post oak standing in a small pond then near a west couse to Harry Popes corner tree where the said Popes & the line which was formerly my fathers line then down my fathers old line to the west course then on the said old line to the beginning also eight negros, to wit: Phillis, Ben, Jesse, Natt, Fenn, V..h, little Cear & Sepce and other the articles that I have heretofore possessed him with together with the increase of the said negros to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Charlotte Vick negroes Hannah & Bob, one bed and furniture one bay mare called Nancy, a pine painted chest & her increase of the said negros, all to her and her heirs forever. Item: I lend the labour & use of the remainder of my negros, to wit: Joan, Ned, Lucy Crieff, Jacob, Isbell, Ben & Mark & Luke and those of Mannor plantation & lands thereto belonging, all other of my estate of what nature or kind soever unto my loving wife Martha Vick during her natural life and widowhood. And after her death or marriage, I give and bequeath the same every? part thereof that may then remaining at that time & their increase unto my son Newit Vick & his heirs forever. Lastly, I do appoint my loving wife Martha Vick & my two sons William Vick & Newit Vick my whole & sole Executors to this my Last Will & Testament revoking & disannulling all former Will or Wills by me hereto made & allowing this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament.
