All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Arthur WHITEHEAD (1693-1750), will dated 12 Mar 1744, proved 10 Jan 1750 In the Name of Almighty God Amen I Arthur Whitehead Being in perfect health and Memory Thanks be to God for the same the Considern the Unsertainty of this Life Think proper & neseaisry ['necessary'] for to Settle my worly affairs in Some small measure or form & as for what little worly Estate the Lord in his Marcey hath been Pleased to indue ['endow'] me with my Intention & meaning is to leave It as followeth Vizt. Item I give & demise unto my Eldies Son Arthur Whitehead the Plantation wereon he now Lives ~ being on the Southwest side of a Swamp called the Cabbin Swamp & from the Mill Cart paith down the said Swamp & up the said Cart paith to Wm. Turners Line down the said Line to the Syprus ['Cypress'] Swamp & down the said to a line of marked trees & so to the head of a Branch Called the tarkel ['Tar Kiln'] Branch the said Land I give to the said Arthur Whitehead & the heirs of his Body Lawfully Begotten forever. Item I give & demise unto the aforesaid Arthur a Negro man Named Pompy to him & his heirs Lawfully Begotten forever Item I also give & demise unto my Gran son Arthur Whitehead a Negro Boy Named Luck to him & his heirs forever Item I give & demise unto my son Lewis Whitehead the Plantation whereon I now dwell with the Plantation a jasuant to the same that I Bought of Wm. Powers with one hundred & Seventy five Acres of Land belonging to the same to the said Lewis & his heirs Lawfully Begotten forever Item I give & demise unto my son Lewis Whitehead & his heirs Lawfully Begotten of his Body a parcel or devident of Land out in the pines woods lying between the Mill paith & the long branch to him & his heirs forever Item I give & demise unto my son Lewis Whitehead & the heirs of his Body Lawfully Begotten a Plantation on Meherin River bounded as followeth from the Cuntry Line up the said River to a Deep Gutt. & up the said Gutt & through the Mill Swamp to the Corner tree & also a parcel of Land lying on Pottycassey ['Potecasi'] Creek in Carrolina to him & his heirs forever Item I give & demise unto the said Lewis one Negro man Called Mingo & also a negro Woman Called Fillis & a Negro Boy Called Peter to him & the heirs of his Body Lawfully Begotten forever after my Decease & his Mothers with ye. Increase of the said Fillis Item I also Give & demise unto ye. said Lewis Whitehead & his heirs all my housel ['household'] Goods which is in the low Room of my New dweling house to him & his heirs Lawfully Begotten forever & also the Still & two Guns which he shall think feet to Chose ['fit to choose'] Item I also give & demise unto the said Lewis Whitehead & his heirs Twenty head of Grown Cattle & all the hay[?] that shall be att the said Plantation which I have given to the said Lewis Whitehead & also my own Riding horse with the Acuterments belonging to that sd. Horse & also a young mare & all my working Tools of every Sorte Item I lend the Use of the plantation & land belonging to the Same with the Mill whereon Nathan Whitehead now Dwells & also a parcel of land upon Meherin River from the deep Gutt up the said River in a neack called hids Neack dureing his Natural Life & after his deceas & mill Item I give & demise the aforesaid Plantation & land unto my Grand Son Benjamin Whitehead & to the heirs [of his] Body Lawfully Begotten forever I also Lend unto my sone Nathan Whitehead the Use of two Negros one Called Dick & his wife Called Rose dureing his Natural Life & after his decease Item I give & demise unto my Grand son Benja. Whitehead the afore mentioned Negros Dick & Rose with their Increass that shall be after he the said Nathan Whitehead is or shall be in possession or possess with the said slaves to the said Benja. Whitehead & his heirs Lawfully begotten forever Item I give & demise unto my Son Nathan Whitehead & the heirs of his Body Lawfully Begotten Two hundred Acres of Land lying on the South side of a Swamp called pollocks Beaver Dam ajasuant Near to my plantation the said Land being in Carrolina over fishing Creek the said Land to him & his heirs forever I also give to my Son Nathan one feather Bed & Firniture Besides the Bed he had before & one Iron Pott & Halfe a dozin Putter plates & 3 Dishes & 3 Basons & one Breeding mare & one Grinstone & two Iron. Wegges Item I lend to my Daughter Patience Vick a parcel or Dividend of Land being ajasuanto the said Jacob Vicks Plantation & so Runing down the said Swamp to a branch Called the Long branch being about four hundred Acres with the use of the said Land, dureing her Natural Life & after her Decease Item I give & demise the aforesaid Land to my Gran son Jacob Vick & to the heirs of his Body Lawfully Begotten forever I also give to the aforesaid mentioned Granson one Negro Boy Called Sharper & one feather Bed & furniture to him & his heirs forever Item I give & demise unto my Daughter Patiens Vick five Shillings Item I give & demise unto my Daughter Catrin Cobb five Shillings & also desire that she nor her heirs may or shall have any more of my Estate then what she the aforesaid Catrin hath had before Item I give & demise unto my Daughter Mary Whitehead & her heirs Lawfully Begotten of her Body a Plantation with two hundred Acres of Land belonging to the same forever the afore mentioned Plantation being on the South side of Fishing Creek on a Swamp Called the Beaver Dam Item I also give my said Daughter Mary a Negro Gairl Called Jone to her & him heirs with the Increase of the said Negro forever Item I also give to my said Daughter Mary one feather Bed & firniture Item I give & demise unto my Daughter Ann Whitehead & to the heirs of her Body Lawfully Begot'n a Plantation on Southwest side of Swift Creek with the Dividend of land thereto belonging forever Item I also Give unto my aforesaid Daughter Ann a Negro Boy Called Toney & also a feather Bed & firniture to her & her heirs Lawfully Begotten forever And as for what small part of my Estate is not already given I Constitute apoint & Desire my Loveing brother Wm. Whitehead & Capt. Thos.
