SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Mary Whitehead, 19 Jul 1795 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Mary Whitehead of Virginia of County of Southampton being sick & weak in body but perfect mind & memory, thanks be to God for it, & calling to mind the mortality of body & knowing it is appointed for all to die, do make & ordain this my last will & testament & as to what it has pleas'd God to bless me with in this life, I give in the following manner & form: I give to my daughter Elizabeth Newby twenty pounds in current money, one feather bed & furniture, one riding? chair & harness, one tea table, six tea spoons & the choice of my horses to her & her heirs forever. I give to my daughter Mary Butel one feather bed & furniture, six warnet? chairs & one chest to her & her heirs forever (this clause ought to come in before the other, being left out by mistake). I also give to my daughter Elizabeth Newby my negroe girl called Press & all her increase which she has now in possession to her & her heirs forever & if she deceas'd before me, I leave all that I have given her to be equally divided between her heirs, them, & their heirs forever. I give to daughter Polly Cotton my negroe girl called Terasy & her increase which Jesse Cotton has now in possion (possession), one feather bed & furniture, one basat? & two warrick? tables to her & her heirs for ever. I give to my grandaughter Pegger Besser? five shillings current money to her & her heirs for ever. I give to my grandson Maxeliors? Whitehead five shillings current money to him & his heirs for ever. I give to my grandson Nathaniel Newby one riding saddle & bridle to him & his heirs for ever. I give to my grandaughter Sally Newby my hutiry? saddle & bridle to her & her heirs for ever. I leave my two negro men Anthony & London to be hired out two years each of thereafter my negros & the money arising therefrom to be applied to the use of my daughter Elizabeth Newby & then it is my will (&) desire they shoud be set free, if the law will admit of it. I leave my negroe girl called Joan to my daughter Elizabeth Newby till she arrives to the age of eighteen years & then to be set free if the law will admit of it. I also leave to my daughter Patty Cotton my negro girl called Pat till she arrives to the age of eighteen & then to be set free if the law will admit of it. I give my negro woman called Beck her freedom after my dec'd, if the law will not admit the above named negros to be set free; Anthony, London & Pat & Jean, I leave them & their increase to be equally divided between my three daughters: Mary Beutel, Elizabeth Newby & Polly Cotton, to them & their heirs for ever. I give all the rest & residue of my estate both real & personal that I have not already given to be equally divided between my three daughters: Mary Beutel, Elizabeth Newby & Polly Cotton, to them & their heirs for ever. I do hereby appoint Joseph Beutel & Jesse Cotton hole & sole Executors of this my Last Will & Testament revoking all other Wills by me before made.
