SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - George Washington, 5 Nov 1780 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Wills: George Washington, Nottoway Parish, Southampton Co, VA (1780) IN THE NAME OF GOD amen, I George Washington of Nottoway Parish and County of Southampton, being of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this as my Last Will and Testament and do dispose of my estate as follows. First, I leave the use of the following articles to my loving wife Sarah Washington, three best feather beds & furniture, all my pewter and kitchen furniture, one woollen wheel, one linen wheel & all my cotton and wood cards, ten of the choice of my cattle and ten choice of sheep and the whole of my stock of hogs, one grey mare, and one bay mare and side saddle, all my plantation utinsels, one desk, one trunk, one chest, one table, half a dozen chairs, one cart and rin?, pair of wheels & iron boxes, six stone jugs, one box iron & heaters, twenty barrells of corn, one man's saddle, one loom with gear?, one rice mill and all my cyder casks, with the whole of the meat and the use of the plantation whereon I now live, during her life. Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Martha Washington at her marriage or coming of age, one feather bed & furniture, one bible and five hundred pounds current money of Virginia to her and her heirs forever. Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my son David Washington part of the tract of land I now live on, lying on the north side of the Miry? Branch containing two hundred and eighty acres more or less divided as follows: beginning at the mouth of the Miry Branch and up the south branch to the fork thence along the south ferong? of the said branch to Joseph Washington's line and likewise one feather bed and furniture, one bible, one whispian, one tenant san, a set of shoemakers tools, one gun and half of my carpenters, coopers & turners tool to him and his heirs forever. Fourthly, Whereas my wife Sarah Washingon is now with child, if she should be delivered of a son that doth live, I give and devise unto him as follows; the remainder part of my land lying on the fourth side of the Miry Branch containing one hundred and sixty acres, more or less, and three hundred pounds current money of Virginia, one large church bible, one rossecution, one gun, and the other half of my carpenters, coopers and turners tools, and one feather bed and furniture, or the value in money at his coming of age to him and his heirs forever. Fifthly, If my wife should be delivered of a daughter, I give and divise unto her the following articles: five hundred pounds current money of Virginia and one feather bed and furniture, or the value in money. Lastly, My will and desire is that my Executors do sell my Negro Ben and all the remainder of my estate of what nature or kind soever, that has not been given in legacies and after paying my just debts and legacies, the remainder to be equally divided between my children then living. Likewise my will and desire is that after the death of my wife, my Executors do equally divide the estate that I have left to her use between my aforesaid children. I likewise constitute and appoint Henry Briggs and my wife Sarah Washington Executor and Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament.
