CONTRIBUTOR'S NOTE: records in Foster, Cosby file
Stafford County

  This may certify that Capt. Nathaniel Fox has served in the Navy and the 
Continental Establishment from 1776 and was wounded in the action at Brandywine 
which wounds rendered him unfit for service so long a time that he wish(ed) to 
resign his commission but was refused an acceptance by his Excellency.  Gen'l 
Washington who gave him permission to retire ___ ____ for?  Given  under my 
hand.  May 25 1783

The above is a true copy to certificate logged in the Auditor's Office.

    The following files were found in the document for Nathaniel Fox:  Certified 
by ? Wellford that Fox's wounds were enough to disable him.  Several muscles 
affected.

Could find no amount in these documents which were unreadable.
