Bessie L. Ashley 

  CHUCKATUCK - Mrs. Bessie Lodge Ashley, age 77, of Chuckatuck Station, died 
Thursday, January 12, in her home. 

  Mrs. Ashley, a native of Chowan County, N.C., was a homemaker and a member 
of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.  She was the daughter of the late 
Luther and Martha Monds Lodge. 

  Survivors include her husband, Hurley W. Ashley, Suffolk; four daughters, 
Mrs. Sara A. Oliver and Mrs. Peggy A. Chapman, both of Suffolk; Mrs. Betty A. 
Greene, Ahoskie, N.C.; Mrs. Sandra A. Van Doren, Westminster, Md.; and ten 
grandchildren. 

  Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, in Wesley Chapel United 
Methodist Church with the Rev. A.J. Edwin Clever officiating. 

  Burial was in Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery, Chuckatuck. 

  Pallbearers were Frank Buppert, Robert S. Jones, J. Samuel Glasscock, 
Millard Winslow, Gibson Chapman, John Delaney, Brian Jones and Tom Bell.

Her mother (1882 - 1971) is buried under her maiden name MONDS in 
   Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL.
