According to police, Peter Clement Bach Jr., 25, of 6977 Ruritan Boulevard, was shot in the head with a Marlin 30.30 approximately 5:30 a.m. Ronald K. Laplante, of the 2800 block of Box Elder Road, was inspecting the gun and thought that it was empty. Bach was pronounced dead at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. Also on Sunday morning, a Suffolk man and a three-year-old boy escaped from a small apartment fire by jumping from a second story window. Donald Lassiter, of 901 Hofler Apartments, was treated and released from Obici Hospital for arm and shoulder burns. Fire department officials say the boy started the fire shortly after 9:30 a.m. by playing with a cigarette lighter. He was not injured, and his mother, Estelle Mizell, and his sister escaped by the front door without suffering any injuries. Damage was estimated at $2,000 to the apartment and $1,000 to the contents. Other apartments were not damaged. A city man was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning as he walked across the 6th Street Bridge. Ricky V. Byrum, of the 1000 block of Blythwood Lane, told police one or more suspects pointed a double barrel shotgun at his head at approximately 3:45 a.m. and told him to keep his head pointed to the ground. The thieves made off with $70, a Timex watch, a pair of beige shoes and a leather jacket. Police noted that Byrum was intoxicated when he made the robbery report and was unable to provide a description of the suspects. Their investigation is continuing in the incident.
