MARY TURNER BUTLER

   Suffolk - A funeral service for Mrs. Mary Turner Butler, 76, was held 
Monday at 11 a.m. in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by Dr. Ben Powers and the 
Rev. Donald J. Dunlap.  Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

   She died Thursday in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.

   She was a native of Nansemond County and the widow of Aris Rein Butler. 
She was a member of First Baptist Church.

   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary B. Saunders of Portsmouth and 
Mrs. Bernice B. Newton of Suffolk; two sons, James R. Butler of Whittier, 
Calif., and John Oliver Butler of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Odell T. Edwards 
of Smithfield and Mrs. Edna T. Holland of Carrsville; two brothers, Thurman 
Turner and John D. Turner II of Smithfield; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-
grandchildren.
