A native of Pamplin, Va., he was the husband of Hazel Moody Bartles and the son of the late Charles Jarvis Bartles and Mrs. Ellen Rodgers Bartles. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was employed at Suffolk Equipment Company. Other survivors include two sons, Charles Jarvis Bartles III of Burke, Va., and Phil Wayne Bartles of Vernon, Conn.; and two brothers, James Edward Bartles of Newport News and Robert Wayne Bartles of Atlanta. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home by Dr. Wayne W. Poplin. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
