Hill & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Arthur McGahan. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. A native of Nash County, he was the husband of Mrs. Susie Duck Carpenter and a son of Ruben and Mrs. Delcia Perry Carpenter. Besides his widow, surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Etta Crocker, Mrs. Lessie Vavarette, and Mrs. Ellen Crocker of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Mrs. Estelle Edwards of Franklin; seven sons, Lawrence B. Carpenter of Suffolk, Ruben Carpenter of Nansemond County, Ernest Mills Carpenter of Richmond, Joseph Carpenter of Portsmouth, and Jonas Perry Carpenter, Mack Henary Carpenter, and George Carpenter of Franklin; 29 grandchildren; and 20 great- grandchildren.
