CHURN SR., FORMER CHIEF OF POLICE, DIES Suffolk - Henley Wescott "Monk" Churn Sr., 86, former chief of police of Suffolk, died Sunday in a local hospital. A native of Norfolk, Mr. Churn joined the Suffolk police department in 1914. He was chief of police from 1923 until 1940 when he was named special investigator for Suffolk, a post he held until his retirement in 1958. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Harrell’s Funeral Home in Suffolk, with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Rocky Mount, Edgecombe Co., NC.
