ELLIS John Robert Ellis, 36, of the 300 block of Turlington Road, died March 6, 2000. Born in Suffolk, he was a heavy equipment operator for Newport News Shipyard. Mr. Ellis was the son of the late Carroll Holt Ellis and stepson of the late Edward H. Saunders Sr. He was also predeceased by a sister, Betty Saunders. He is survived by his mother, Gladys Lewis Saunders of Suffolk; his wife, Janice Carr Ellis of Franklin; a daughter, Jennifer Ann Ellis of Suffolk; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joeanna and William Smith, Judy E. and Garry Griggs Sr., and Alice and David Mussellman, all of Suffolk; a brother, Carroll Thomas Ellis of North Carolina; nieces, Lynn Clark, Lisa Smith, Gena Smith, Amber Rogerson, Lisa Ellis , Kimberly Ellis and Angel Ellis; and nephews, Garry Noland Griggs Jr., Justin Rogerson and Carroll Saunders. A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. T.A. Powell. Interment will be in Holland Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
