Mr. Godwin, a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, was a former buyer for Columbia Peanut Co. in Suffolk, and was a farmer-salesman with Smith-Douglas Fertilizer Co. for 25 years. He was a member and a deacon of Antioch Congregational Christian Church, where he also served on the board of trustees. He was the last surviving charter member of Windsor Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Pierce Godwin; two daughters, Lavenia G. Munford of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Shirley G. Crocker of Windsor; a sister, Louise G. Strothman of Newport News; a brother, Curtis S. Godwin of Suffolk; and four grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Tuesday in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. Victor Hunter. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad or to the building fund of Antioch Congregational Christian Church, Windsor.
