Born in Nansemond County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Holland and the widow of George Vernon Hayes. She was a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Billy Hayes and his wife, Aleene, of Franklin; a brother, William Henry Holland of Suffolk; and a granddaughter, Debbie Knapp and her husband, Jack, of Chesapeake. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Holland Cemetery with the Rev. J. Denise Smelley officiating.
