Suffolk - William Shakespeare Holland, 77, died this morning in a Charlottesville hospital. Born May 29, 1894, in Windsor, he was the son of the late William and Alice Bell Holland. His wife was the late Ola Willie Elam Holland. Mr. Holland was judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in Suffolk from 1942 to 1946. He was clerk of the Suffolk City Circuit Court from 1949 to 1967 when he retired. He attended Washington and Lee University and Fork Union Military Academy. He received his LL.B. in 1916 and was accepted to the Virginia State Bar that same year. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and the Crime Commission created by the Virginia Senate in 1946. Mr. Holland received his 50 year pin in 1966 from the Masonic Lodge of Suffolk. He was also a member and trustee of the First Baptist Church in Suffolk and was chairman for many years of the Suffolk Salvation Army. He was listed in Who’s Who in The South, and Southwest. Surviving are four sons, Mason P. Holland of Delaware Water Gap, Pa., William S. Holland, Jr. of Cleveland, J. Elam Holland of Charlottesville and Dr. Karl W. Holland of Bristol; a daughter, Mrs. B.C. Boyton of New Market; a brother, Hugh L. Holland of Suffolk; a sister, Miss M. Louise Holland of Charlottesville; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Baker Funeral Home of Suffolk in charge of arrangements. Hon.
