RALEIGH CLARKE HARRELL, JR.

   SUFFOLK - Raleigh Clarke Harrell, Jr., 79, of 914 Pennsylvania Ave., a 
retired superintendent and buyer, died July 1, in a convalescent center.

   Mr. Harrell, a native of Suffolk, had worked for Birdsong Storage Co. for 
34 years.  He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church.  He was also a member 
of the Travelers Protective Association and the Hiram Masonic Lodge 340.

   Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Jacobs Harrell; a son, Richard B. 
Harrell of Smithfield; a sister, Lydia H. Rose of Carrsville; two brothers, 
Beverly T. Harrell of San Diego and Davis E. Harrell of Virginia Beach; and a 
grandchild.

   The funeral was conducted Friday in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by Dr. 
Paul D. Carmany.  Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

   Memorial donations may be sent to his church or the Nansemond-Suffolk 
Rescue Squad.
