Mrs. Jones, a native of Portsmouth, was a retired dean of students at St. Mary’s College in Raleigh. She was a graduate of Longwood College and received her master’s degree from William and Mary College. She has been listed "Who’s Who of American Women" in the "International Who’s Who of American Women." She was a member of Pullian Baptist Church in Raleigh. Survivors include a daughter, Eva Jones Williams of Suffolk; a son, James E. Jones, Jr. of Fayetteville; a brother, Charles Booth of Richmond; and a grandson. A graveside service was held Feb. 9 in South Quay Baptist Church Cemetery in Suffolk by the Rev. Stark Dillard. Memorial donations may be made to the South Quay Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
