All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM EDWARD JOHNSON SUFFOLK - William Edward Johnson, 68, of the 1400 block of Wilroy Road, a retired maintenance worker, died Aug. 11, in a Warrenton hospital. Mr. Johnson, a native of Nansemond County, retired from Suffolk City Schools. He was the owner and operator of Johnson’s Woodwork Shop. He was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church and president of the Suffolk Gideon Camp. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League of America, Eastover Ruritan Club, Nansemond River Power Squadron and honorary member of the Bennett’s Creek Rescue Squad. He was on the board of directors of the Old Dominion Area Council Boy Scouts of America. He received the Silver Beaver Award for outstanding service to youth by the Boy Scouts of America, was a charter member and vigil honor member of the Chanco Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. Survivors include his wife, Nora Ashley Johnson; a daughter, Bonnie J. Wright of Suffolk; two sons, W. Warren Johnson of Virginia Beach and C. Bruce Johnson of Suffolk; three sisters, Marion J. Dixon and Lou Emma Bradshaw, both of Suffolk and Nellie Mae Williamson of Hampton; and six grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Thursday in Wilroy Baptist Church by the Rev. Dave Darbyshire. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Gideon Camp, P.O. Box 1214, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
