Macklin Mrs. Helen Birdsong Macklin, 84, died this morning in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Martha McLemore Birdsong. She was the widow of Harold Hammond Macklin. Mrs. Macklin was active in cultural and civic activities in Suffolk for many years and was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She was past president of the Suffolk Woman's Club, Riverview Garden Club and United Methodist Women of her church. She was a graduate of Hollins College, a member Suffolk Literary Club and for many years served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert L. Smith III of Virginia Beach and Mrs. J. Lewis Rawls Jr. of Suffolk; one son, Harold H. Macklin Jr. of Richmond; one brother, Harvard R. Birdsong of Suffolk; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Main Street United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert D. Fridley. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The body will be taken from the R.W. Baker Funeral Home and placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rawls, 603 Dumville Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Main Street Methodist Church or the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad. ****************************************************************************** Mrs. Helen Birdsong Macklin Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Birdsong Macklin, who died Friday, were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Main St. United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Robert D. Fridley. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Herbert L. Smith III, H. Garrett Smith II, William Macklin Smith, J. Lewis Rawls III, Frank Macklin Rawl James Martin Habel III.
