He was a native of Isle of Wight County, and the son of the late William Roger Powell Sr. and Mrs. Elsie Bryant Fowell. Survivors include a daughter, Martha P. Green of Suffolk; two sons, Roy Albert Powell of Florida and Michael Jackson Powell of Suffolk; three sisters, Francis Harrell and Estelle Thorne, both of Suffolk, and Susie Belle McNamara of Richmond; two brothers, William Roger Powell Jr. of Smithfield and Floyd A. Powell of Suffolk; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in I.O. Hill and Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. O.R. Hardy. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
