Frederick Panton John Frederick Panton, 83, of 308 Brook Ave., died Wednesday in Obici Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Southampton County and an Army veteran of World War I. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Hoggard Sunday School Class. He was the commander of the World War I Barracks No. 1045. He was an honorary member of the Nansemond River Duck Club and a life member of the Suffolk Volunteer Company. He retired after 36 years as captain of the Fire Dept. He was the husband of the late Mary Lee Futch and son of the late Matthew J. and Mrs. Mattie Ricks Panton. He is survived by two sons, Richard T. Panton of Charlotte, N.C. and James F. Panton of Suffolk; a step-son, Richard R. Futch of Shenandoah, Va.; a step- daughter, Mrs. Gladys F. Canney of Imperial Beach, Cal.; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian P. Bunch of Suffolk and Mrs. Callie P. Knight of Tampa, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, N. Main Street, by Dr. Wayne W. Poplin. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The body will be taken from the Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home to the church at 1 p.m. The family will be at the home of James F. Poplin. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home was in charge. Panton died Wednesday in a hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of the late Mary Lee Futch. A World War I Army veteran, he had retired as captain from the Suffolk Fire Department after 36 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, North Street. He was commander of the World War I Barracks No. 1045 and was an honorary member of the Nansemond River Duck Club and life member of the Suffolk Volunteer Fire Company. Survivors include two sons, Richard T. Panton of Charlotte, N.C., and James F. Panton of Suffolk; a stepdaughter, Gladys F. Canney of Imperial Beach, Calif.; a stepson, Richard R.
