He was a native of Winona, Minn. Mr. Sassman was a retired engineer from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Depot, and was a Roman Catholic. He was the widower of Pearl Summers Sassman. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Guthrie, of Hampton, and Peggy S. Pierce, of Suffolk; and two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie S. Johnson, Duluth, Minn., and Sister Michon, of the Order of Benedictine, in Lacy, Wash. Also surviving are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A mass of the resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church by the Rev. Christian Haydinger. Burial services will be conducted by the Rev. J. Allen Johnson, in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be in the Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home Monday night from 7:30 to 8:30.
