William M. Everhart. Funeral arrangements were by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home. Umphlette died Thursday in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Gates, N.C., and the husband of Mrs. Florence Moore Umphlette and a son of Mrs. Hortense Raby Umphlette of Franklin. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Oakland Christian Church. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Florence U. Gardner of Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. H.L. Casper of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Al Rollison, and Mrs. Robert Rhea of Franklin; four brothers, H.R. Umphlette of Columbia, S.C., and Bennie C. Umphlette, Harry L. Umphlette, and Ben J. Umphlette of Suffolk; and three grandson.
