SURRY COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Thomas Cotton to John Smith, 1712 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Deeds: Thomas Cotton-John Smith, Southmark Parish, Surry Co, VA INDENTURE BETWEEN THOMAS COTTON & JOHN SMITH 1712 (partial) TO ALL TO WHOME this Deed Indented of bargaine & sale shall come. KNOW ALL YEE that I. Thomas Cotton of Southmark parish in the County of Surry, blacksmith for & in consideration of two thousand pounds of tobacco to me in hand paid by John Smith of the parish of Martin Brandon in ye county of Prince George, planter the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge. HAVE granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, & confirmed & by these presents do grant, bargaine, sell, alien, enfeoff & confirme unto ye said John Smith, his heirs, executors, administrators & assigns a certain tract or parcell of land containing by estimation a hundred fifty seven acres be the same more or less scituate lying & being in the County of Surry aforesaid & is bounded as followeth, viz: Beginning at a white oake at the mouth of ye Roundabout branch thence north west a hundred twenty eight poles west by south seventy poles north twenty degrees west twenty two pole to a pine then north north east two hundred pole to a white oak by a branch then north sixty nine degrees east a hundred twenty six pole & north sixty nine degrees east to a pine near Warrick Path being a corner of the dividing line then to a great pine in ye head of a branch & down ye branch to ye beginning. TO HAVE & TO HOLD the above said hundred fifty seven acres of land.......(end of page) NOTE: This Indenture appeared at the bottom of one of my documents pertaining to my ancestors.
