SURRY COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Carter Crafford to William Phillips, 2 Nov 1708 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Deeds: Carter Crafford-William Phillips, Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co, VA LAND SALE, 100 ACRES - CRAFFORD-PHILLIPS (1708) TO ALL TO WHOM these presents shall come Carter Crafford and Sarah, his wife, of Lawnes Creek parish in ye County of Surry sendeth greeting. Know ye that ye said Carter and Sarah Carfford for and in consideration of ye sum of twenty one pounds & fifteen shillings sterling money to them in hand paid before ye execution, signing & delivery of these presents by William Phillips of ye parish and county aforesaid. The receipt whereof they acknowledge and thereof and of every part thereof do hereby clearly release, acquitt and discharge him, the said William Phillips, his heires, executors, administrators, forever by these presents HATH granted, bargained, sold, aliened, infeoffed and confirmed and by these presents do fully clearly & absolutely grant, bargain and sell, aliene, infeoff and confirme by livery & seizin thereof made at ye ensealing and delivery of these presents unto ye said William Phillips, his heires and assigns forever a parcel of land conteyning, by estimation, one hundred acres or thereabouts scituate lying and being in ye said parish and county aforesaid. It being part of a parcell of land sold to Matthew Swan by Mr Robert Crafford and Elizabeth, his wife, both of ye parish and county aforesaid and by ye said Matthew Swan given to his daughter, Sarah, in his Last Will and Testament bearing date December ye 14th 1704 and bounded upon ye said Phillips and Coll. Phillip Laidwall? and part upon ye swamp called Carter Swamp. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said land with all rights, proffitts and priviledges and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to him ye said William Phillip and to ye only proper use behoofs and benefitt of him, his heires, executors, administrators, forever in fee simple without any manner of lett suit trouble, eviction or contradiction and without any manner of limitations or conditions to alter, change or determine ye sume and said Carter and Sarah Crafford do for themselves, their heirs, executors, administrators, both hereby covenant, grant and promise to and with ye said William Phillip, his heires, executors, administrators and assigns that ye said parcell of land before by these presents mentioned, granted and sold whereof livery and seizin hath been made at ye date hereof and from time to time and at all time hereafter shall bee remain and continue to him ye said William Phillips, his heirs, or assigns forever freely and clearly acquitted and discharged and exonerated and by ye said Carter and Sarah Crafford, their heires and executors, administrators sufficiently saved and kept harmless of, and from, all manner of Pattent claimes and pretences whatsoever to ye said land by any person or persons whatsoever making or pretending claime or title thereto. The rents and services of or due to our sovereign Lady ye Queen for ye time to come only accepted and ye said Carter and Sarah Crafford doth further grant, covenant and promise to and with ye said William Phillips, his heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, that at his or their reasonable request they will make, sign and delivery such further assurances and conveyances of ye said land as ye said William Phillips, his heires, executors, administrators, as shall be by them or their Councill Learned in ye law devised or required. IN WITNESS and confirmation of ye before recited bargaine, sale and covenant the said Carter and Sarah Crafford have to these presents sett their hands and seals ye Second day of November in ye year of our Lord God 1708: AND in ye seventh year of ye reigne of our sovereigne Lady Ann of Great Brittain, France and Ireland, Queen defender of ye faith &c: Carter Crafford sealed with red wax her Sarah S.
