Widow: Martha Wall

Martha was previously certified by P. Henry, Governor, to receive a pension:
 
   I do with the advice of the Council hereby certify that Martha Lewis, widow 
of Joseph Lewis, late a private in a detachment of the Continental Line, and who 
died in the service of the United States, is continued on the list of pensioners 
with an allowance of 8 pounds yearly, commencing from the first of Jan. 1793.  
Given under my hand as Governor of the Commonwealth of VA, at Richmond, this 
10th day May, 1794.

     I do hereby certify that Martha Lewis hath rec'd as the widow of Joseph 
Lewis, a private solder in the late war the balance of pay due him or such by 
the United States and the County of Law allow'd by this state to soldiers.  I do 
also certify that she is a present in a situation rather infirm and that she is 
about fifty years of age.

Surry County, Sept. 22nd, 1783:  Certifie that Joseph Lewis a soldier enlisted 
for a division of the County fo serve for 18 months on the first day of August 
1779.
    Wm. Curly? VA:

 This day came before me Mrs. Mary McCarty and made oath that she was present at 
the marriage of Joseph and Marth Wall sometime in the month of April 1779 and 
that they were married by the Reverend In. Brachen paster of Branton Parish but 
he being now gone to England cannot obtain his certificate of the same.  Given 
under my hand this 20th September  '83 and 28th April, 24th July 1786.
