Appel, 77, prominent farmer of Surry County, died Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock at his home. Mr. Appel was a native of British Columbia [sic*] but had lived in Virginia since 1903. Surviving him are his widow Mrs. Cora Nunnally Appel; four daughters, Mrs. Edward Logan, Misses Elizabeth and Lena Appel, of Surry and Mrs. Joseph Council of Smithfield; three sons, E.E. Appel of Norfolk; John Frank, and William Appel of Surry. Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Chappel Church in Surry by the Rev. J.L. Marker. Burial was in the church cemetery [sic*]. British Columbia [now in Canada]. He m. Cora Lee NUNNALLY (1878-1956) 10 Feb 1903, in Surry Co. The record gives b. Austria.
