Born in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey John and Aralease Munford Cowling. She worked as a US Army Civilian Employee as Executive Secretary of the Nuclear Weapons System Evaluation Group at Pentagon in Washington, D.C. until she moved with her family to Ethiopia. Upon their return to the United States, they moved to Wakefield, where they made their home until moving to Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk in May of 2008. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Bromley Adkins; two sons, David C. Adkins and wife, Linda of Glenn Allen, and John R. Adkins of Blackstone; a daughter, Linda Adkins Smith and husband, David of Chester; two sisters, Alyce C. Richardson and husband, Keith of Wakefield, and Ann W. Cowling of Piedmont, SC; and four grandchildren, Jamie, Byron, Felicia, Noah and Rachel. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clifford C. Cowling. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wakefield Baptist Church with Rev. James Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery. The family is being served by the Wakefield Chapel of R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory. Clarice (COWLING; Mrs. James B.)
