EDWARD MONROE ATKINS 

  WAVERLY - Edward Monroe Atkins, 84, of Route 2, died Monday in Southside 
Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

  He was a retired Surry County farmer and a member of Carsley United 
Methodist Church.

  He was past president of Surry Ruritan Club, a member of Blackwater 
Sportsman club and a former member of the state Democratic Committee.

  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fannie Mae Stallings Atkins; a daughter, 
Mrs. Laura Jean Atkins Sheffield of Waverly; a son, James E. Atkins of 
Richmond; a brother, Randolph G. Atkins of Petersburg and five grandchildren.

  A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Purviance Funeral Home 
Chapel in Wakefield by the Rev. Samuel Askew.  Burial will be in Waverly 
Cemetery.

  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

  The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of 
contributions to Waverly Rescue Squad or Carsley United Methodist Church.

EDWARD M. ATKINS 

    WAVERLY - Edward Monroe Atkins, 84, died Monday, Dec. 22 in Southside 
Regional Medical Center in Petersburg.

    He was a native of Isle of Wight County and a member of Carsley United 
Methodist Church.  He was also a retired Surry County farmer and past 
president of Surry Ruritan Club.  He was a member of Blackwater Sportsman 
Club and a former member of the State Democratic Committee.

    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fannie Mae Stallings Atkins; one son, 
James E. Atkins of Richmond; one daughter, Mrs. Laura Jean Atkins Sheffield 
of Waverly; one brother, Randolph G. Atkins and five grandchildren.

    Services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel 
in Wakefield with the Rev. Samuel Askew officiating.  Burial was in Waverly 
Cemetery.

    Purviance Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
