ATKINS ATKINS, James E. passed away January 6, 2015. He is survived by his children, Tom Atkins, Susan Atkins and Lyon Shibut; sister, Laura A. Sheffield and husband, Eddie; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His wife, Peggie, passed away in 2014. Upon graduation from Virginia Tech, he served two years in the U.S. Air Force and then joined Southern States for 15 years. Later in his career, he was a sales agent for pre-engineered steel buildings and last represented Nucor Buildings, Inc. He was past president of the Westmoor Civic Association, the Model A Club of Richmond and the Surry County Virginia Historical Society. His deep interest in the history of Surry County led to the establishment of the Surry Historical Society in 1998 and the Roger’s Store Museum in Carsley, Va. He will be greatly missed by family and many family. A memorial service will be held at Welborne United Methodist Church on Friday, January 9 at 2 p.m., with a reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Surry County Historical Society, P.O. Box 262, Surry, Va. 23883 or to Welborne United Methodist Church. "Jim" James E.
