BISHOP DIES OF 3-WEEK ILLNESS J.R. Bishop, 76, died Friday, July 8, at a Richmond hospital after an illness of three weeks. A native of Surry County, he was a former partner in the Richardson and Bishop Lumber Co. at Wakefield, a member and deacon of the Dendron Congregational Christian Church, member of the Dendron Town Council for the past 41 years, and a son of the late Theophilus W. and Emma Burgess Bishop. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Skinner Bishop of Dendron; two daughters, Mrs. L. Thurman Williams of Dendron, and Mrs. Robert E. Morey of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren, r.E. Morey, Jr. and Miss Marilyn Ruth Morey of Washington, D.C.; one brother, E.V. Bishop, of Richmond; and three sisters, Mrs. L.W. Bishop of Waverly; Mrs. T.J. Harrell of Petersburg and Miss Susie Bishop of Richmond. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 10, at 4:30 p.m. at the Purviance Funeral Chapel with Rev. T. Fred Wright, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Wakefield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Herman Bowden, Jack Pittman, M.B. Joyner, Garland Morris, Marshall Brittle, Howard Burt, Jr., Edward Richardson and Harry Barlow.
