All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ NINA SETTLE BISHOP CLAREMONT (Delayed News) Mrs. Nina Settle Bishop, 49, Drowned During Storm Mrs. Nina Settle Bishop, 49*, of Rawlings, Brunswick Co., who had purchased a cottage at Claremont Ferry Beach and was living there for the summer, was drowned Saturday, July 23rd, in the James River, during the severe storm that struck our community late in the afternoon. As we understand it, Mrs. Bishop in company with other relatives had towed a rowboat with its passenger out to one of the Esso tankers and when they reached the tankers the storm really broke and all were being taken aboard the big ship, when a sudden hard blow and high wave broke the landing platform loose and threw Mrs. Bishop in the river. Her body was recovered in about ten minutes and it is believed she died of shock rather than being drowned. Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. Nina Frances (SETTLE; Mrs. Jas.
