His family was a very religious and church-going family, and religious values and church attendance were instilled in his from an early age. After graduation from high school, he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Charles farmed all his life. Upon meeting his future wife, Helen Brittle, and marrying her, he moved to her family home in the Rocky Hock community, where Sonny Boykin lives today. They were married for 54 years and raised six children. Charles and Helen brought the children to church every Sunday. After moving to the Rocky Hock area, Charles faithfully attended Rocky Hock Church for almost 60 years. Many of those years he taught the men's Sunday school class (the L.P. Bland Bible Class). Charles always believed that the King James Version was the only Bible to read and to teach. Years later, people still talk about how knowledgeable he was about the Bible and what a good teacher of the Bible he was. Charles Boykin faithfully read his Bible and truly lived his faith, an example of how we all should live our lives. Charles is buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery. Thanks to Jean Boykins Holdsworth for the information and picture. ****************************************************************************** ROCKY HOCK CHURCH BULLETIN: CHARLES CLYDE BOYKINS, SR. - 09-13-1915 - 02-29-2004 Charles Boykin, though never on our church membership roll here at Rocky Hock, was truly a member in many ways. Charles and Helen raise a large and colorful family - a family that was quite gifted in music. We will never forget the Boykin girls singing in our church together when they were small. How proud their Daddy used to be! I will always remember Charles with his true tenor voice and the men's choir with Helen playing the piano and directing us. We could always sing "Life's Railway to Heaven" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," two of Charles' favorites. We oft times practiced at the Boykins' home and the six little ones were running around entertaining all of us. We enjoyed the many years that Charles taught the L.P. Bland Sunday school class. He had a great biblical knowledge and often shared with us his schooling and experiences at the Moody Bible Institute. Even though he was still a member of Millfield Baptist Church where he grew up, he was truly a member of Rocky Hock Church. "Little Surry" and Rocky Hock will always miss him and the many ways he contributed through the years.
