He lifelong resident and farmer of Surry County. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. J. Sherwin Richardson of Elberon and Mrs. C.R. Epps of Wakefield; a son, J.W. Bailey of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, D.B. Bailey of Wakefield; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield by the Rev. R.L. Consolvo and the Rev. W.B. Epps. Burial will be in Rocky Hock Methodist Church Cemetery, Surry. The family will be at the J.S. Burial will be in Rocky Hock Methodist Church cemetery, Surry. ****************************************************************************** THE HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH PEWS - ROCKY HOCK METHODIST CHURCH - GIVEN IN HONOR OF MR. AND MRS. GIRLEY BAILEY Girley Bailey (1892 - 1971) was born on the family farm "Ponsonby" (refer to June 9, 2002 church bulletin) and farmed all of his life. He married Amy Collier Bailey (1904 - 1965) on October 7, 1921. They had four children - Winston, Frances, Mary Ann and Annie. Amy was a member of Rocky Hock Church. Girley had three brothers, one of whom, Norfleet, was the first casualty from Surry County in World War I. Girley and Amy are buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery, as is Norfleet, with his military information engraved on a very striking and attractive stone.
