Bell, who died Wednesday afternoon at his home in Surry County, are to be held this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at tha Old Brick Church Cemetery at Macon's [sic; Bacon's] Castle. Pallbearers are to be Blanks Moody, Beverly Jones, Bruce Holloman, Ira Price, Ernest McCoy and Fred Council. Friends of the family are to serve as honorary pallbearers. ****************************************************************************** JESSE E. BELL, 67, BURIED FRIDAY AT BACONS CASTLE Jesse E. Bell, 67, died at his home in Surry Co. Wednesday afternoon after a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Surry County and a well-known merchant. Mr. Bell was a member of Bacons Castle Baptist Church. Besides his wife Mrs. Minnie Britt Bell, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Garnett Clark, of Smithfield, and Mrs. Ray Cofer of Hopewell; two sons, Sgt. Eldridge W. Bell, USA, Fort Belvoir, and Sgt. Willie J. Bell, USA, of Washington, D.C.; four step-children, two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Sallie Bailey, of Wakefield. The funeral procession left the Bullock Funeral Home at 2:45 p.m. Friday for services at the grave in Old Brick Cemetery in Bacon's Castle at 3:30 p.m. Officiating was the Rev. J.A. Cales, former pastor. Pallbearers were Blanks Moody, Beverly Jones, Bruce Holloman, Ira Price, Ernest McCoy and Fred Councill. (FaG Mem. #204363107) Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. #14880 (Cobham #8), which gives sn/o Jacob Eldridge & Alice James Bell; bu. Lawn's Creek, Surry Co. The "Old Brick Church" near Bacons Castle was indeed the Lawn's Creek Parish Church, which burned in 1868. Find a Grave.com also calls this Lower Surry Cemetery.
