She was born to the late Harriett Davis Faison and Robert Fulton Faison on November 9, 1921 in Dendron, VA, one of nine children. The family moved from the town of Dendron to Dripping Springs Farm on the Blackwater River, where they resided for many years. She attended Dendron Elementary School and graduated from Dendron High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. Frances moved to Newport News and worked as a time keeper at the Shipyard while living with her sister, Mildred Garrett. Frances met Walter Elmo Bloxom, Jr. who was from Battery Park, VA at Burwell's Bay in Surry County, and they were married on August 7, 1948 at Dendron Baptist Church, where she was a member. Frances and her husband lived in Blacksburg, VA until he graduated in 1950 with honors in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech. They lived in Pensacola, FL, Camden, SC, and Richmond, VA. In 1955 they moved to Chesterfield, VA as they began their lives with Walter taking employment with Continental Can Paper Corporation which extended to 1974. They moved to Augusta, Georgia and resided there until 1985, then moving to the West Point area where they expanded their life again to include his Engineering consulting, and their retirement on the York River. Their 56 year marriage and team career provided the opportunity for Frances to experience farm life and traveling extensively to many interesting and pleasurable destinations. Frances was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point, Virginia and enjoyed many of Reverend Marvin Kerby’s sermons, who was a faithful visitor to Frances to the end. She enjoyed life with her friends and was very faithful to her family. She enjoyed participating in the preparation of Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations dinners at Dripping Springs Farms in Surry County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Elmo Bloxom, Jr.; sisters, Mildred Garrett, Catherine Greco, Evelyn Whiteman, Charlotte Grubbs, Harriet Whitmore; brother, Robert Fulton Faison, Jr.; nieces, Linda Clark, Joy Seward, Cindy Faison; nephews, Cameron Whiteman and Fielding Whiteman. Frances is survived by her sons, Ron Bloxom and Mo Bloxom; a granddaughter, Savanna Bloxom Leach and her husband, Samuel Joseph Leach; a great-granddaughter, Riley Samantha Leach; a sister, Barbara Faison Seward; and a brother, Wallace Eugene Faison and his wife, Ruby; seven nieces, Judy Logan, Peggy Briggs, Kay Johnson, Sandy Brooks, Deborah Jones, Jeanne Vann and Sharon Novel; seven nephews, Doug Whiteman, Tommy Whitmore, Fulton Faison, Wallace Faison, Jimmy Grubbs, Chris Seward and Rob Seward. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 5th at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Smithfield, VA. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the family home, 127 Ridge Road, Gressitt, VA. Memorials may be made to Dendron Baptist Church, 1244 Dripping Springs Road, Dendron, VA 23839.
