She was a native of Surry County, [and retired from??] Camp Corporation. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the Woman’s Fellowship. Survivors include two sons, John E. Benton and Jimmie Lee Benton, both of Suffolk; two sisters, Evelyn M. Martin of Virginia Beach and Cora M. Luter of Ivor; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral was conducted Jan. 9 in the chapel of the funeral home by the Revs. Alan Fellumlee and Larry Burkhart. Burial was in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Rescue Squad or to the United Lung Association. Purviance Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
