Frances Marquerite Pittman Burgess, 94, formerly of Spring Grove, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Colonial Heights Health Care Center, where she was a resident for 12 years. The oldest of nine children, she was born November 14, 1920 in Dendron, and was the daughter of the late Percy Eugene and Corine Rebecca Hancock Pittman. She was a member of Dendron Congregational Christian Church and retired in 1991 after 14 years as owner and operator of The Country Store in Spring Grove. Along with her parents, Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Benjamin Burgess; five brothers, Eugene, Randolph, Arthur Lee, James Alton, and Lawrence Pittman, one sister, Jeanette Ray Davis; and step-son, Clyde Burgess. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Rebecca Pittman Dillion of Dinwiddie, and Anne Pittman Lile and husband, Raymond of Chester; three sisters-in-law, Helen Pittman, Glenyss Clark and Barbara Burgess; and many special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel, 11414 General Mahone Hwy., Wakefield, VA 23888 with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Merchants Hope Cemetery, 11302 Merchants Hope Rd., Hopewell, VA 23860. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Claremont Volunteer Fire Department P.O.
