HOWARD B. BURT, JR. 

  Howard B. Burt, Jr., 79, of Dendron, died Monday, March 19, 2001.  He is 
survived by his wife of 58 years, Theadotia K. Burt.

  Howard was proprietor of Burt’s Groceries from the late 1940’s until he 
retired in 1988.  He was an avid bowler and golfer.

  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Judy Bulls and 
her husband, Chesley, of Southampton County, and Susan Smelser and her 
husband, Dan, of Lynchburg; two sons, Richard Burt, of Raleigh, N.C. and 
Michael Burt and his wife, Diane, of Eugene, Oregon; two sisters, Louise 
Hines of Sun City Cenyer, Florida and Irene Boole of Statesboro, Georgia; 
one grandson, Craig Newlon and his wife, Leigh Ann, of Southampton County; 
one great-granddaughter, Hilary; and four step-grandchildren.

  A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Ray Rowland on March 24, at 
Dendron United Methodist Church.

  Memorial contributions may be made to the Dendron Volunteer Fire Department 
or Dendron United Methodist Church, Dendron, Va. 23839.
