BRITTLE Smithfield, Va., March 19 - James Edward Brittle, 79, retired farmer, died at a Richmond hospital Sunday after a brief illness. A native of Sussex County, Mr. Brittle lived in Surry County most of his life.  He is survived by three sons, Arthur G. Brittle of Hopewell, J.S. and H.A. Brittle, both of Smithfield, a daughter, Mrs. Felix Gay, of Wakefield, and a brother, P.T. Brittle of Surry. Funeral arrangements were incomplete last night. ****************************************************************************** James E. Brittle Funeral Tomorrow SMITHFIELD, Mar. 20. - Funeral services for James Edward Brittle, 79, who died in a Richmond hospital yesterday afternoon after a short illness, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Old Brick Church Cemetery at Bacon's Chapel [sic; Castle]. The Rev. Emory Trainham of the Smithfield Baptist Church will conduct the services. The funeral procession will leave the Bullock Funeral Home, where the body now rests, at 2 o'clock for the cemetery. Mr. Brittle waa a native of Sussex County and a resident of Surry County most of his life. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Felix Gay of Wakefield; three sons, Arthur G. of Hopewell, J.S. and H.A. Brittle, both of Smithfield; a brother, P.T. Brittle of Surry. Pallbearers will be Ira, Leroy and Jack Price, A.L. and R.L. Goodrich and Jack Rawlings. May 1865, appears in the 1900 Census - Licking Hole Dist., Goochland Co. - as a convict on the State Prison Farm. He was convicted of being an accessory to the murder of a tramp, Patrick MacDONALD, in 1899 in Isle of Wight Co., and sentenced to five years.
