R. T. Brittle, 74, Of Surry County Buried Tuesday 

            * * * 

  Richie Thomas Brittle. 74, prominent farmer of Surry County, died January 
12th at 3 A.M. at a Suffolk [sic; Williamsburg*] hospital after a long 
illness.  He was the son of the late Edwin and Sarah Brittle of Sussex County, 
and was born in Sussex [sic*], but lived for many years in Surry County where 
he was a member of Union Christian Church of Surry and had been a member of 
its board of deacons and church cemetery for 40 years. 

  Surviving him are his wife Mrs. Martha Faison Brittle; four daughters, Mrs. 
G.S. Huber of Spring Grove; Mrs. B.A. Seward of Surry; Mrs. J.B. Whitimiore 
[sic; Whitmore] of Smithfield; and Mrs. Benj. Robert Edwards of Portsmouth; 
two sons, the Rev. Richie E. Brittle of Nansemond County and G.C. Brittle of 
Wakefield; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. 
Courtney Wood and Mrs. B.F. Graves of Richmond. 

  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Union 
Christian Church in Surry with the Rev. J.M. Roberts officiating.  Burial was 
in the church cemetery.
