MINNIE HILL BURTON 

  DENDRON - Minnie Hill Burton, 95, widow of Garland Cole Burton Sr., died 
Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005 in Yorktown.  Born Nov. 19, 1909, in Prince George 
County, she was the daughter of the late James Hill and Minnie Lee Livesay 
Hill.  She was a resident of Surry County most of her life and for the past 
20 years, she was a resident of the peninsula.  At the time of her death, 
she was the oldest living member of the Dendron United Methodist Church.

  She, affectionately known to all as "Granny," was a loving mother and 
grandmother.  Her long and blessed life was devoted to her family and to her 
church.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Garland Cole Burton, Jr. and 
James Hill Burton Sr.

  She is survived by two sons Richard Lee Burton Sr., Chesapeake, and Carl 
Martin Burton, Smithfield; four daughters, Norma B. Crocker, Smithfield, 
Alice B. Morgan, Dallas, Texas, Judith B. Applegate, Hampton, Virginia B. 
Galdos, Yorktown; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-
great-grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held at Dendron United Methodist Church, Rolfe 
Highway, Dendron on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. 
Interment followed in Brandon Church Cemetery, Burrowsville.

  Memorial donations may be made to Dendron United Methodist Church, Surry 
Charge, P.O. Box 118, Surry, Va. 23883.

  Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, assisted with arrangements.
