MADISON WILKINS BERRYMAN 

M.W. BERRYMAN, 50, PROMINENT SURRY COUNTY CITIZEN, DIES 

  Madison Wilkins Berryman, 50, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 20th at 
his home at Surry Courthouse.

  Mr. Berryman was a distributor for petroleum products in Surry and a member 
of the Surry County Board of Supervisors; a deacon in the Surry Baptist 
Church; a member of the Surry Ruritan Club; Jefferson Lodge No. 65, A.F. & 
A.M., and a partner in an oil company in Surry.

  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Stroud Berryman; a son, Leroy W. 
Berryman; his mother Mrs. Sarah V. Berryman; his grandmother, Mrs. Valerie 
King; two sisters, Mrs. N. Judson Pitman, of Surry, and Mrs. William McGeever 
of Washington, D.C., and three brothers, Gordon C. Berryman, Commissioner of 
Revenue of Surry County; Raymond M. Berryman, of Baltimore, and Garland H. 
Berryman, of Newport News.

  The funeral procession left the Bullock Funeral Home Thursday at 12:30 p.m. 
for services at Surry Baptist Church t 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. J.A. 
Cales, former pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.J. Callis, Jr., pastor of 
Claremont Surry Methodist Circuit.  Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Surry.

  Active pallbearers were Maynard W. Berryman, Gordon C. Berryman, Jr., 
George Earl Gaskin, Arthur L. New, Robert Garrison and John F. Matthews.
